The Trailblazer women's tennis team bounced back from the two losses they took earlier in the week with two wins of their own, defeating former RMAC foe Colorado Mesa twice on Saturday.
Dixie State (4-11) started the first match off strong by taking two out of three doubles matches to secure the first point of the day.
Kyra Harames and
Alexandra Hildreth played to a convincing 6-1 win in No. 1 doubles. While
Juliana Honczaruk and
Ya-Chi Hsu dominated in No. 3 doubles, taking the match 6-0.
The Blazers continued their strong play heading into singles play, quickly taking the No. 3 through No. 6 spots from Colorado Mesa (7-9). Harames took her match in No. 1 singles in two sets, winning the first 6-2, and the second 6-4. Hildreth battled in No. 2 singles, playing to a win in her first set, 6-4 and a loss in her second set, 5-7. The sophomore then pulled out a nail biter in the third set, 10-8. This ended the first match and clinched the sweep for the Trailblazers.
The second match started similar to the first, with the Trailblazers sweeping the Mavericks in doubles play. Honczaruk and Hsu took their match in No. 2 doubles 6-3, while Hildreth and
Emma Templeman also won 6-3 in No. 3 doubles. Templeman set the tone for the Trailblazers in singles play, winning her match in No. 3 singles in two sets. Dixie State would then claim the 4-6 spots in route to their second win of the day.
"It was a great day of tennis for the girls," said Head Coach
Eric Pelton. "They picked up their games on big points to close out the close games and get wins!"
Dixie State is 4-11 thus far into their first Division I season. The Trailblazers will be on the road next week, heading to Edinburg, Texas to take on New Mexico State and Chicago State.
