Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blazers draw at 2-2 with Aggies

The Dixie State women's soccer team battled through two overtimes to come away with a 2-2 draw with New Mexico State Thursday afternoon.

The Trailblazers were able to get a goal in the first half to put the Aggies on the ropes. Kennedy Warnick had the ball out on the left wing and when she reached the 18 yard box she centered the ball to Jill Bennett who controlled and then fired it into the net for a DSU goal and a 1-0 lead.

Dixie State maintained the lead until NMSU tied it up with a goal in the 51st minute. In the 64th minute DSU drew a corner kick. Kristyn Lommason took the corner and sent it towards the goal where Whitley Griffiths jumped up and was in a tussle with the keeper but ultimately was able to get the ball into the net for the Blazers second goal and a 2-1 lead.

In the 74th minute, the Aggies scored a second goal and tied the game up. Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of regulation and the game went into overtime.

In the first overtime, Dixie State was able to get two shots off but neither of them were on frame. New Mexico State had one shot but Dixie State's Adelle Brown came away with a save to keep the score at a draw to send it into a second overtime.

Neither team was able to get a shot off in the second overtime and the game closed out with a 2-2 draw.

Dixie State ended the game with 19 shots with eight on frame. Bennett and Griffiths each had five shots for the game high. Brown ended the game with eight saves in the net.

NMSU had 15 shots with 11 on goal. The Aggies goalkeeper ended the game with six saves.

DSU now has a 2-7-2 overall record on the season and will take on New Mexico State again on Saturday, March 27 before returning to Greater Zion Stadium for the final three home games of the year against UTRGV and Utah Valley.
