The Dixie State women's tennis team dropped their home opener Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Grand Canyon.
Grand Canyon began the day off strong by sweeping the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.
Juliana Honczaruk and
Rachel Mellor came closest to a win, playing to a 4-6 loss in No. 3 doubles. The Antelopes kept the strong play up heading into singles by quickly claiming the No. 1 through 3 spots. The highlight of the day came from
Sabrina Longson in No. 4 singles. The Junior jumped out to a lead by winning the first set 6-3, she then dropped her second set 1-6. Longson ended her day by playing to a 4-10 loss in the 3rd set. Honczaruk dropped both of her sets in the No. 6 spot to close the day out for the Trailblazers.
Dixie State is 1-9 thus far into their first Division I season. The Trailblazers will be back in action Sunday, March 21st at 9 a.m. in St. George. They will take on WAC opponent, Seattle University.
