Trailblazers pick up 4-0 win over Cougars

Box Score The Dixie State women's soccer team came through with a second 4-0 victory over Chicago State, Saturday afternoon.

"Our staff is very pleased by how the team performed and we were happy to see hard work and dedication to the process result in two team victories," head coach Molly Rouse said. "It was excellent to see the group capitalize on good chances created, while limited opportunities against. By scoring multiple goals and achieving two shutouts, our team has solidified their potential within the conference. We will look to roll momentum from this weekend into our single game against UVU next week."

Dixie State started the offensive attack early in the game. Dixie State drew a foul for a free kick outside the 18 yard box. Kenna Sparks took the free kick sending it off the left pole. Sophie Stewart received the ricochet, tapping it back towards the goal while Kelsey Cook was making a run and kicked the ball dead center into the back of the net.

DSU had the 1-0 lead for the majority of the first half. As the first half was winding down, Sparks took a free kick on the left wing. She bent that ball towards the goal and it sank in the 43rd minute to give Dixie State a 2-0 lead at half time.

In the 52nd minute, Dixie State had control of the ball in the box. Stewart centered it to Griffiths who took a shot that was blocked. Cook settled the ball and sent it back to Griffiths who backdoored the keeper for the Trailblazers third goal of the game.

In the 71st minute, Griffiths was camped on the left side pole and received a ball from the right side. Griffiths put a head on it and it snuck around Chicago State's keeper for her second goal of the game.

Dixie State closed out the game with a 4-0 final score. DSU advanced to 2-6-1 overall on the season and will return home March 20 to host in-state rival Utah Valley.
