Wolverines Rally Back Against Trailblazers
Â
The Trailblazers suffered their first home loss of the season to Utah Valley University Monday night despite owning a 2-1 lead.  A late comeback by the Wolverines doomed Dixie State (6-6/5-6 WAC) in the first of many matches within the recently renewed 'Old Hammer' rivalry.
Â
Dixie State wasted no time in setting the tone of the match as it jumped out to a 9-3 advantage.  The Trailblazers would extend the lead thanks in part to a 5-0 run to give them a 21-11 lead late in the set.  A late rally saw the Wolverines cut into the deficit slightly, but it wasn't enough and Dixie State finished the job, winning 25-19.
Â
Set two saw Dixie State sneak out to an early lead, but an 11-5 run by UVU turned the tide and gave the Wolverines a 14-13 lead.  UVU would extend the lead to five before the Trailblazers charged back to bring the score to 21-20, but a 4-0 run dashed any comeback hopes and UVU took set two 25-20.
Â
The Wolverines took the momentum from set two and jumped out to a 7-1 lead to begin set three.  Dixie State would slowly begin to creep back into the match and eventually tied the set at 14 apiece.  It was back and forth from there as each team traded points until the match was squared at 25.  The Trailblazers were finally able to get over the hump and won the final two points necessary to claim a 27-25 win.
Â
Needing to win each of the next two sets, UVU came out in set four and held the Trailblazers in check throughout the frame.  The Wolverines garnered a 12-5 lead which would eventually turn into a 22-11.  UVU finished off the Trailblazers to tie the match a two with a decisive 25-15 victory.
Â
Tied at two, the match went into a fifth set – Dixie State's first five-set match of the season.  The set began level with a 5-5 tie before a 5-1 Wolverine run saw them take a 10-6 lead.  The Trailblazers tried to climb back into the match and trimmed the lead to one before UVU slammed the door and used another 5-1 run to win the set 15-10 and claim the victory.
Â
The Trailblazers fall back to the .500 mark on the season despite a triple-double from
Megan Treanor.  Treanor tallied 10 kills, 23 assists and 16 digs while
