After claiming its first two Western Athletic Conference victories over UT Rio Grande Valley last week, the Trailblazer's bid to extend its winning streak to three games came up empty at the hands of the Antelopes.
Â
Dixie State kept pace with the Lopes throughout the first set.  Despite trailing through, the Trailblazers brought the score to 19-17 late in the frame but couldn't get over the hump as GCU closed out the first set winning by a score of 25-21.  Dixie State actually out hit the Lopes in the first set, .214 to .200, but DSU was unable to capitalize on a game-high seven errors committed by GCU.
Â
Set two was a struggle for Dixie State.  The Trailblazers hit just .074 and were unable to recover from a massive 11-4 Lopes run midway through the set.  Meanwhile, GCU scorched the Trailblazers committing just one error for a hitting percentage of .481.  The Lopes rode the hot hitting to a 25-11 victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead over the Trailblazers.
Â
Hoping to avoid a sweep, the third set was the most competitive of the match as the Trailblazers owned a slim 17-16 lead midway through the period. GCU, however would slowly begin to pull away before putting the Trailblazers away with a final score of 25-22. Â
Chayse Daugherty did her best to keep Dixie State alive as she recorded four kills throughout the set, but it wasn't enough as the Lopes claimed the 3-0 victory.
Â
Megan Treanor led Dixie State offensively with five kills alongside nine assists and nine digs. Â
Mykenna Nelson paced the Trailblazers defensively with 16 digs, while
Taela Laufiso had 15 assists.  Four other Trailblazers recorded four kills in the loss.
Â
Dixie State hopes to avenge the loss as it will turn around and face the Lopes against tomorrow in the final of the two-match pod series.  The match against the two former PacWest foes is set to begin at 2 p.m.  Live stats and video streaming information can be found at dixiestateathletics.com.
