Dixie State could not get the bats going on cold and windy Saturday afternoon as the Trailblazers dropped their third-straight game to visiting Washington State, 15-1, at Bruce Hurst Field.
The Cougars (6-1) scored 11 times over their first three offensive innings to race out to an early lead. After scoring a single run without benefit of a hit in the opening frame, WSU plated three runs in the second before erupting for seven more in the third to extend to a double-digit advantage.
DSU (0-3) was held to five hits on the day, while the lone Trailblazer run came on a one-out passed ball in the home fifth.
Tanner Harper collected DSU's lone extra base hit of the game with a one-out double in the seventh.
Sophomore hurler
Carson Phillips (L, 0-1) pitched into the third inning and surrendered five runs on three hits and three walks to take the loss in his DSU debut. Meanwhile, Cougar righthander Brandon White (W, 2-0) held Dixie State hitless over his first four innings, while giving up one hit and one unearned run to go with eight strikeouts in six complete to pick up the win.
Dixie State will look to salvage a win the series finale Sunday beginning at 12:05 p.m.
