Dixie State hosted the first day of the Dixie State Classic today and fell 9-0 to No. 2 Washington Huskies and then later fell 13-0 to the University of Nevada.
GAME 1:
How it happened: Washington locked down Dixie State early in the game as the Huskies commanded both sides of the ball.
Kasey Crawford was able to get a hit with a single up the middle to prevent a no-hitter on the game. Crawford also stole second to put DSU in scoring position before she was left hanging.
DSU put two runners on base in the top of the fourth inning but couldn't get anything across the plate.
Washington ensured an early end for DSU with a two RBI homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning to give UW a 9-0 win.
At the plate: Dixie State ended with one hit and no walks in the 17 at bats. The Trailblazers left three runners on base and ended the game with 14 strikeouts.
In the field: Dixie State had 12 putouts and 5 assists. Thomson closed out five for the game high.
In the circle: Carissa Burgess started in the circle for DSU and pitched 2.1 innings giving up eight hits, seven runs and one walk and five errors in the 15 batters faced.
Kate Dolinski pitched the final inning for the Trailblazers and 1.2 innings. She gave up two hits, two runs and three walks in the 10 batters faced. She also had the lone strikeout of the game for DSU.
GAME TWO -
How it happened: The University of Nevada threw their No. 1 pitcher, Kendall Fritz against the Trailblazers. DSU was only about to get one walk and two hits throughout the duration of the game.
In the bottom of the third inning, Dixie State's Kirsten Quigley came up with the Trailblazers first hit of the game as she placed the ball right over the shortstop's head for a single.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, with two outs, Brylee Rudd put in her efforts to keep the game alive with a line drive through the 5-6 gap to get on base.
Nevada commanded the offensive side of the ball by putting up five runs in the third inning, two in the fourth and six in the fifth to take a 13-0 win over Dixie State.
At the plate: Dixie State ended the game with two hits, from 17 at bats and drew one walk with eight strikeouts. Dixie State left three runners on base throughout the duration of the game.
Nevada ended the game with 13 runs from 15 hits off of 29 at bats, with 13 RBIs. Nevada drew two walks from three strikeouts and had five left on base.
In the field: The Trailblazers ended the game with 15 putouts and six assists. Thomson closed out six outs while
Meagan Anders and
Ashtyn Bauerle contributed two assists.
In the circle: Bauerle started in the circle for Dixie State and pitched 4.2 innings. She face 30 batters and gave up 13 hits and two walks. She also came away with three strikeouts and hit one batter.
Kate Dolinski came in and closed out the game facing three batters and pitching 0.1 innings. She gave up two hits and no runs.
Notes to know: Dixie State has a 1-6 overall record now on the season.
