Career Highs From Nelson, Treanor Propel DSU to Victory Over CBU

A career night from both Jordyn Nelson and Megan Treanor helped Dixie State (4-4/3-4 WAC) to a 3-1 victory over former PacWest rival California Baptist University.  The Trailblazers improve to .500 overall on the season and remain undefeated at home.

Dixie State owned the first set as it came out firing offensively to a tune of a .407 hitting percentage.  The defense wasn't slacking either as the Trailblazers forced CBU into a match-high seven errors and a match-low .000 hitting percentage.  Dixie State opened the set with an 11-6 advantage, but thanks to a massive 12-2 run, the Trailblazers were able to run away and hide, winning the set 25-12.

DSU controlled much of the second set as well with runs of 5-0 and 4-0, respectively, that saw them hold a 15-7 lead midway through the frame.  The Lancers would fight back and eventually cut the eight-point deficit to just four, but the Trailblazers were able to finish off the set 25-20.

CBU wouldn't go quietly, however, as they jumped out to a 10-8 lead to begin set three.  Dixie State was able to turn things around and grab a 15-12 lead before the Lancers went on an 11-3 run to regain the lead 23-18. A late 5-1 run from the Trailblazers was not enough as CBU slammed the door and won by a score of 25-23.

Being unable to finish the match in three sets got Dixie State's attention as it came out in the fourth set and took a 12-5 lead.  The Lancers won eight out of the next 11 rallies to bring the score to 16-15, but a 7-1 DSU run was the difference as Dixie State claimed set four 25-18 and the 3-1 victory to move back to .500 for the season.

Nelson had a monster night offensively as she set a career high in assists with 51.  Nelson set her previous career high of 50 assists back on September 27, 2019 in a 3-2 victory against Western Colorado.  Monday's match marks the first time this season that any player has surpassed 50 assists in a game.

Treanor didn't want to be left out of a career night as she tied a career high with 19 kills in the victory over the Lancers.  Treanor has recorded 19 assists on a few occasions, the most recent of which came in a win against No. 18 ranked Tarleton State on August 30, 2018.

Four players finished with double-digit kills as Dixie State fired a .329 hitting percentage throughout the match.  Whittnee Nihipali had 14 kills, Lauolive Tonga tallied 11 and Kate Hardy added 10 in the victory.  Nelson recorded her first double-double of the season adding 10 digs to her career high in assists.  Her sister Mykenna Nelson helped the Trailblazers with 24 digs while Rebekah Farris had 10 digs in the win.

Dixie State will look to repeat Monday night's success as it will turn around and take on the Lancers Tuesday at 12 noon inside Burns Arena.  Live stats and streaming information can be found on dixiestateathletics.com.
