The Trailblazers took on No. 2 Washington and UNLV for the second time this weekend. Frist, DSU fell 7-0 to Washington in the first game of the day and then fell 8-0 to UNLV.
GAME 1 -
How it happened: Washington wasted no time getting on the board. The second pitch of the game, UW's lead off batter cranked over the right center fence. Before the first inning came to a close the Huskies had two runs on the board.
After three complete innings, Dixie State trailed 4-0. Washington went on to add three more runs throughout the next four innings and after seven complete innings the game ended with a 7-0 score.
At the plate: Dixie State scored no runs from six hits. DSU drew three walks and had just two strikeouts. Clements led DSU with two hits including one double. Meagan Anders also came away with two hits on the day. The Trailblazers were also successful on two stolen bases.
Washington ended the game with seven runs from nine hits. UW drew seven walks and had three strikeouts.
In the field: Dixie State had 21 putouts and six assists. Thomson closed out eight for the game high. While Anders had three assists.
In the circle: Ashtyn Bauerle started in the circle for Dixie State and pitched 5.2 innings. She faced 30 batters and gave up seven hits, six runs and five walks. She had two strikeouts.
Kate Dolinski closed out the game and pitched 1.1 innings. She gave up two hits and two walks and came away with one strikeout in the nine batters faced.
GAME TWO -
How it happened: In the first inning, Dixie State held tough on defense. UNLV had runners on second and third when
Kirsten Quigley came up with a 6-3 putout to keep the Rebels from crossing the plate.
In the second inning, DSU's defensive efforts were on point as they left UNLV stranded on base for the second time in the game. The third inning concluded and both teams remained scoreless.
UNLV got one run across in the bottom of the fourth to break the goose eggs on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the fifth the Rebels came up with four runs from four hits and one DSU error for a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth UNLV loaded up the bases and Dixie State couldn't lock down as the Rebels came up with three runs to end the game.
At the plate: Dixie State ended the game with four hits from 21 at bats. DSU drew four walks and had nine strikeouts.
Meagan Anders had the game high with two hits.
In the field: The Trailblazers ended the game with 15 putouts and seven assists. Thomson closed out four out while
Kirsten Quigley contributed four assists.
In the circle: Carissa Burgess started in the circle for Dixie state. She pitched 4.1 innings and faced 22 batters. She gave up eight hits, four runs and one walks. Burgess did come up with three strikeouts.
Brianna Castellon came in and pitched 0.2 innings and gave up five hits, four runs and one walk in the eight batters faced.
Notes to know: Dixie State has a 1-4 overall record now on the season.
