Three career high performances led Dixie State to a 101-61 victory over Simpson University Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened: The game started out a little slow with both teams going on a two minute scoring drought. The drought was broken by
Breaunna Gillen who scored back-to-back driving layups.
Gillen went on to drop 11 points in the first quarter to help the Trailblazers to a 22-12 lead.
During the second quarter the Trailblazers continued to charge pushing their lead to 46-32 going into half time. Maggie McCord put up 11 points in the second quarters for DSU.
In the third quarter, Simpson came within five points but Dixie State pushed on for a 13-0 run to end the third quarter with a 70-52 lead over Simpson.
Dixie State continued to charge in the fourth quarter going on a 10-2 run before the game ended with a 101-61 victory over Simpson.
Leaders: Dixie State had five players score in double figures and was led by Gillen who dropped a career high of 24 points. She went 11-15 from the field. Gillen also led the way in assists with eight on the day.
McCord and Taylia Stimpson both broke career highs. McCord ended the day with 17 points going 6-10 from the field and 5-8 from the three. Stimpson had 12 points going 5-6 from the field and 2-3 from the arc.
For the fourth time this season Maddie Warren hit double figures with 15 points. Emily Isaacson was the final Blazer to hit double figure scoring with 15 points. Isaacson also led the Blazers in rebounding with nine on the afternoon.
Comparison: Dixie State ended the night shooting 60 percent from the field, 51 percent from the three and 80 percent from the free throw line. The Trailblazers totaled 32 rebounds, 19 assists, eight steals and 10 turnovers.
The Trailblazers had 40 points off the bench, 17 points from turnovers, 16 off of fast breaks and 40 in the paint.
Simpson shot 36 percent from the field, 37 percent from the three and 80 percent from the free throw line. The Redhawks ended the game with 36 rebounds, 14 assists, 17 turnovers and five assists.
Simpson had seven points from turnovers, 24 points in the paint, 25 points off the bench, and no points off a fast break.
Notes to Know: DSU is now 3-5 overall on the season.
Up next: Dixie State will remain home to host Westcliff before hosting Air Force and Southern Utah before starting WAC play after the Christmas holiday.
