Blazers fourth quarter lag leads to 81-64 loss to the Aggies

Dixie State women's basketball hung tight with Utah State but a fourth quarter lag gave the Aggies an 81-64 win over the Trailblazers. 

How it Happened: Utah State started the game on an 8-0 run. Macie Warren broke the run with a made layup to put the Trailblazers on the board. Later in the first quarter, Emily Isaacson made back-to-back three pointers to help narrow the score deficit. As the first quarter ended Dixie trailed 23-9. 

The Trailblazers found a groove on defense and held the Aggies to just four points in the first four minutes of the second quarter. Later in the second half, Dixie State hit an offensive rhythm going on a 11-2 run. Dixie State ended up outscoring Utah State in the second quarter 24-16. At the half, DSU trailed 39-33 to USU. 

Dixie State and Utah State were matched in scoring in the third quarter with Utah State outscoring Dixie just 18-17. DSU trailed 57-50 going into the final quarter of play. 

As the fourth quarter started, Breaunna Gillen executed a driving layup that gave Dixie State the smallest score deficit in the game at just five points. The rest of the fourth quarter Utah State controlled the momentum and ran away with an 81-64 win over DSU.

Leaders: Dixie State was led by Gillen who dropped a career high of 23 points. She went 9-15 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line. Gillen also led the way in assists with six on the day.  Isaacson ended the game with double figure scoring putting up 19 on the night while Maddie Warren dropped in with a sneaky 12 spot.  

Talia Sireni was the Trailblazers top rebounder with 10 boards. 
 
Comparison: Dixie State ended the night shooting .343 from the field, .200 from the three and .706 from the free throw line. The Trailblazers totaled 36 rebounds, 18 assists, nine steals and 14 turnovers. 

Utah State shot .472 from the field, .261 from the three and .538 from the line. The Aggies totaled 49 rebounds, 15 assists, eight steals and 17 turnovers. 

Notes to Know: DSU is now 2-4 overall on the season. 

Up next: Dixie State will stay on the road to take on Colorado before returning home for four consecutive games.
