Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dixie State returns to action with record breaking victory

After nearly a year with no competitions, Dixie State women's basketball returned to action with a big record breaking 107-57 victory over Life Pacific Tuesday night.

What head coach JD Gustin said: "We were so excited to be back in action. We really shared the ball well tonight. That might sound simple but that's the way we want to play. We want to be aggressive, while sharing the ball and executing those extra passes and we started out the game doing that really well."

How it Happened: Dixie State wasted no time getting a jump on the Warriors with an 11-2 run. The Trailblazers next 12 points were all made from beyond the arc and as the first quarter ended, DSU had a 33-14 lead. Dixie State never let up in the first half and pushed their lead to 28 points with three minutes left. As the first half ended, the Trailblazers had a 56-30 lead over the Warriors.

DSU started out the second half with an 8-2 run and never looked back. At the end of the third quarter, Dixie State had an 84-45 lead over Life Pacific. Dixie State ended up out-scoring Life Pacific 23-12 in the fourth quarter to push to the final buzzer with a score of 107-57.

Leaders: Dixie State had five Trailblazers score in double figures.  Junior Breaunna Gillen recorded a triple double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Freshman Maddie Warren led DSU with 22 points going 7-11 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc.  Talia Sireni and Macie Warren each had 18 points, while Emily Isaacson had a career high of 15 points.

Averi Papa led the Blazers on the boards with 12 on the night and the game high with two blocks.

Comparison: Dixie State ended the night going 39-78 from the field, 22-51 from beyond the arc and 7-11 from the free throw line. DSU ended with 66 rebounds, 28 assists and four blocks.

Life Pacific ended the game going 23-81 from the field, 5-21 from the three and 6-13 from the line. The Warriors totaled 36 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Notes to Know: DSU broke the school record for most three pointers made and most attempts in a single game with their 22-51 on the night. Dixie State tied the school record for most points scored in a single game with their 107 on the night. This was the fifth time in school history Dixie has scored 100 or more points in a game.
