Dixie State picks up 73-37 win over Antelope Valley

Dixie State women's basketball picked up a 73-37 victory over Antelope Valley Saturday afternoon.  

How it Happened: Dixie State and Antelope Valley started out the game matching each other in scoring. However, in the final four minutes the Trailblazers lit up going on a 7-2 run to take a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

Dixie State started out the second quarter on a 10-2 run. The Trailblazers defense stopped the Pioneers from scoring a field goal and held them to just two free throws over a six minute period. DSU held UAV to just six points in the second quarter and had a 31-15 lead at half time. 

In the third quarter, Dixie State had its biggest offensive effort of the game putting up 20 points in the quarter to bump the Trailblazer lead to 51-28. 

The Trailblazers continued to pressure in the fourth quarter and as the game ended DSU came away with the 73-37 win.

Leaders: Dixie State was led by Breaunna Gillen who dropped a career high of 21 points. She went 8-15 from the field and 2-5 from beyond the arc. There were two other Blazers who had double digit scoring. Maddie Warren popped off for 14 points going 5-10 from the three. 

Emily Isaacson recorded a double-double with 12 points and a career high rebounds with 14. Issacson's 14 boards were also the game high. 
 
Comparison: Dixie State ended the night shooting 40 percent from the field,  31 percent from beyond the arc and 66 percent from the free throw line. DSU ended with 57 rebounds, 18 assists, and 18 turnovers. Dixie had 36 points in the paint and 22 points off the bench. 

Antelope Valley ended the night shooting 19 percent from the field, 22 percent from the three and 49 percent from the free throw line. The Pioneers recorded 39 boards, six assists and 19 turnovers. UAV had 12 points in the paint and 15 points off the bench. 

Notes to Know: DSU is now 2-2 overall on the season. 

Up next: Dixie State will stay home to host Kansas State, Wednesday, Nov. 24 before hitting the road to take on Utah State and Colorado.
