Trailblazers to close out 2021 season at UNLV

OPENING TOUCH: Dixie State men's soccer closes out the 2021 season on the road against the UNLV Rebels on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

TRANSITIONING INTO THE WAC: Dixie State enters its second season of Division I play as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Dixie State is scheduled to play an 18-game schedule including seven non-conference games and 11 conference games.

DIXIE STATE VS. UNLV: Dixie State has faced UNLV one time in university history. The match was on March 31, 2021 and the Trailblazers saw a 2-0 loss at home. The Trailblazers outshot the Rebels 9-6 but were unable to break through and ultimately took the 2-0 loss.

KNOW YOUR FOE: 
UNLV: UNLV is currently 7-10-0 on the season and sits in 9th place in the Western Athletic Conference. The Rebels have just one win in their last five matches, their last win coming against UTRGV at home by a 2-1 scoreline.

The Rebels have allowed 34 goals this season and scored 28 goals this season. The Rebels have the fourth most prolific goalscorer in the WAC on their side. Aedon Kyra has scored eight goals on the season and has one assist. He is also third place in the WAC on shots created with 50.

The Rebels have only taken two losses at home this season. They are 5-2 at home and their two losses came against Incarnate Word and California Baptist.

COACHING STAFF: Jonny Broadhead (Colorado State-Pueblo, 2004) is in his fourth season as Dixie State head coach. Broadhead has a 36-41-4 overall record at Dixie State. He has led the program to 10 or more wins in two of his three seasons at the helm. 

Broadhead has brought with him assistant coaches Kyle Coffee and Nick Vorberg who are both in their first seasons with DSU. 

TRAILBLAZERS PICKED TENTH IN THE WAC: Dixie State was voted to finish 10th in the WAC men's soccer preseason coaches' poll released on August 17th. Grand Canyon was picked first with six first place votes. Seattle U was picked second with four first place votes. The Trailblazers did not have any members selected to the 2021 Preseason All-WAC team.

LAST SEASON IN THE WAC: The 2020-21 season was the first season the Trailblazers competed in the WAC. The 2020-21 season faced many cancellations and games rescheduled due to COVID-19. The Trailblazers closed the 2020-21 regular season with a 3-6-0 record. DSU's three wins in the 2020-21 season came against Incarnate Word, Houston Baptist and UTRGV, all except the win over Houston Baptist were on the road.

TEAM NOTES: Dixie State is 3-13-1 this season. Their three wins came in two 1-0 scorelines over UC San Diego and Houston Baptist and a 2-0 win over Incarnate Word.
Dixie State has scored ten goals this season. Daniel Brubaker and Idris Alabi lead the team in goals scored with three apiece. 

Alabi scored two of his goals this season against California Baptist on Oct. 16, and his third on Oct. 31 versus Incarnate Word. Matt Lockwood, John Joseph, Larsen Rogers and Julian Herrera each have a goal apiece as well. Traedon Chamberlain, Cole Shaffer, Jimi Villasenor and Gian Gargurevich have all registered one assist apiece. Alabi also registered one assist on Brubakers goal against UIW.

Dixie State has allowed 37 goals this season.

Dixie State has three shutouts this season, one coming in the season opener against UC San Diego and the second coming from freshman goalkeeper Jacob Zimmerman in the team's match against Houston Baptist. The third was in DSU's 2-0 win over Incarnate Word.

The team has just one game remaining this season at UNLV.
