Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Corie Sue Holmes

Trailblazers and Redhawks end in 0-0 draw after 2OT

Trailblazers women soccer battled in a 0-0 double over time draw against Seattle U on Friday evening.

WHAT HEAD COACH MOLLY ROUSE SAID: "Tonight was an excellent example of our team demonstrating grit and organization against a solid WAC opponent on the road. Seattle played a tough shape and they did well to maximize their attacking opportunities throughout the match. The game presented several moments for us to create chances to get into the attacking third, which were limited due to Seattle tight defensive shape. We were pleased to see our group fight the entire match and showcase an ability to take another step forward in our defensive organization. We will continue focusing on how to create more and better attacking opportunities as we head into another tough match vs CBU on Sunday."

HOW IT HAPPENED: The first half went scoreless for both teams. Seattle U had a strong offensive attack. Dixie State's defense fought hard to keep the Redhawks eight total shots and three on frame shots at bay. In the first half, DSU managed just one shot.

The second half Dixie State's defenses stay dialed in as they prevented eight more shots with five shots on frame from scoring. Regulation action ended in a 0-0 tie.

Dixie's goalkeeper, Kayla Gonzales came up with four saves between the two overtimes to maintain the shutout and prevent a Trailblazer loss. The game concluded in a 0-0 tie.

STAT BREAKDOWN:  Kalea Woodyatt led DSU with two shots. Dixie State ended the game with five total shots. Seattle U ended with 23 total shots and 12 on goal.

Gonzales ended the game with her second shutout of the year and had 12 saves.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 4-9-1 overall on the season and 0-3-1 in WAC action. This is the Trailblazers second shutout of the season.

UP NEXT: The Trailblazers will stay on the road for one more game against California Baptist on Oct. 10. Dixie's next home game will be Oct. 16 against Utah Valley.
