Trailblazers hit the road to take on Seattle U and CBU

ON THE WHISTLE: Dixie State will continue the 2021 season with a pair of road games starting at Seattle U and then California Baptist.

NOTES TO KNOW:
• Dixie State holds a 4-9-0 record on the season and are 0-3 in WAC action.
• DSU is on a four game losing streak.
• Dixie State has played just four home games this year. The Blazers started the season with six consecutive road games.

DIXIE STATE STAT QUICK NOTES:
• Dixie State has 15 goals on the season from 130 shots with 60 shots on frame.
• DSU averages 10 shots per game.
• The Trailblazers have 85 saves on the season and have allowed 30 goals on the season.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL
• FIRST GOAL: Dixie State's freshman Kalea Woodyatt scored her first collegiate goal and first Trailblazer goal of the season just eight minutes into the first game of the season.  
• LEADER: Whitley Griffiths, Jilll Bennett, Brynlee Roberts and Kalea Woodyatt lead Dixie State with three goals each on the season.
• MOST RECENT: Brynlee Roberts snuck a goal from a Trailblazers corner kick in the 84th minute against Utah Valley.
• Dixie State has now scored five goals this season in the first 10 minutes of the game and six goals in the first 10 minutes of any half.
• DSU has scored three game winning goals in the final 10 minutes of the game.

GONZALES LEADS THE WAC IN SAVES
Junior transfer, Kayla Gonzales has broke into the top of the leader boards in the Western Athletic Conference with her 82 saves on the season. She's recorded a .745 save percentage on the season, sits at a 2.27 GAA and has racked up 1112 minutes in the net. She set a career high with 13 saves against Weber State.

GRIFFITHS EARNED PRE-SEASON ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Whitley Griffiths was named to the WAC Pre-Season All-Conference team after leading Dixie State with 10 goals last season.

FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
Dixie State picked up a 2-1 win over UNLV in the season opener. DSU put a notch on the scoreboard in the first eight minutes from a corner kick. UNLV answered before the first half closed for a 1-1 score. It wasn't until the 88th minute that the Blazers were able to tuck in another goal for the game winner.

COACHING STAFF: Molly Rouse (Minnesota, 2012) is in her second season as Dixie State head coach. Rouse hnow has a 3-10-2 record as a head coach. Rouse brought back with her assistant coaches Lindsey Dare and Jennie Clark.

SEASON KICKOFFS: Dixie State has an 9-4-3 record in season openers in the NCAA era. They are also 4-2-3 in home openers.

BENNETT TAKES OVER MOST MATCHES PLAYED: Senior Jill Bennett has now competed in 86 matches in her time at Dixie State which is the most matches above any other athlete in school history.

ALL-TIME VS. SEATTLE:
Dixie State has a 0-2-0 overall record in the all-time opponent series with Seattle U. Dixie is on a two game losing streak with the RedHawks in the series. Dixie is 0-2 when playing Seattle under head coach Molly Rouse. The last time the two teams met was in the Spring 2021 where the Blazers fell 2-1 and then later DSU fell1-0.

KNOW YOUR FOE SEATTLE: The Redhawks are 6-5-1 so far on the season and are 0-3 in WAC play. Seattle U is coming off a 1-0 loss to Grand Canyon. Seattle U is led by Sydney Carr and Leahi Manthei who each have three goals on the season. SU has fired off 102 shots on the season with 69 on frame and 14 scored goals. Keeper, Jessica Berlin has 45 saves on the season in 863 minutes.

ALL-TIME VS. CALIFORNIA BAPTIST:
Dixie State has a 2-11-0 overall record in the all-time opponent series with CBU. Dixie is on a three game losing streak with the Lancers in the series. The Trailblazers are 1-8-0 when taking on the Lancers on the road. Dixie is 0-2 when playing California Baptist  under head coach Molly Rouse. The last time the two teams met was in the Spring 2021 where the Blazers fell 2-1 and then later DSU fell 2-0.

KNOW YOUR FOE  CALIFORNIA BAPTIST: The Lancers are 3-6-1 so far on the season and are 1-2-0 in WAC play. CBU is coming off a 1-0 loss to New Mexico State and are on a two game losing streak. CBU has six goals on the season each scored by a different Lancer. California Baptist has fired off 102 shots on the season with 50 on frame and six scored goals. Keeper, Romy Salvador has 24 saves on the season in 743 minutes.

2021 ROSTER BREAKDOWN: Dixie State returned nearly eight starters and lost two from last years squad.

The Trailblazers return their leading scorer from last spring in Whitley Griffiths who had 10 goals and one assist. Also returning are seniors, Jill Bennett, Kelsey Cook, Tess Donaldson, junior Shaylyn Uyeshiro and sophomore McKinley Barney who all clocked over 1,000 minutes played last season.

The Trailblazers had six players earn All-Conference in the spring of 2021 with five of them returning in Griffiths (First Team), Donaldson (Second team) and Bennet, Cook and Barney (Honorable Mentions). Dixie State ended the 2021 spring season with 19 total goals.

UP NEXT: Dixie State will return home for a 3 game home stretch first, hosting Utah Valley on Oct. 16 before hosting California Baptist (Oct. 21) and Seattle (Oct. 23).
