Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Trailblazer Men's Soccer Stopped by UTRGV Friday Night

Trailblazer men's soccer was stopped at home by the UTRGV Vaqueros Friday night by a 3-0 scoreline.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The start of this match was not ideal for the Trailblazers. Almost of the kickoff the team gave up the first goal of the match just 52 seconds into it. That goal woke the Trailblazers up, though, and they played a solid next half hour of play.

In the 24th minute Larsen Rogers had an absolute rocket from the top of the 18-yard box and forced Vaquero goalkeeper Oliver Padilla into his first real save of the night.

Just a few minutes later in the 30th minute defender Matt Lockwood made a huge clearance that kept the Vaqueros from netting their second goal.

Unfortunately, Lockwood's efforts were short lived and the Vaqueros snuck a second past Moore in the 35th minute.

Headed into halftime the Vaqueros held a steady 2-0 lead after the early goal.

The second half was a lot cleaner from the Trailblazers. After subbing on some fresh legs for the second half, the team was able to settle down and get some foot chances off.

Rogers opened up the second half with a shot in the 53 minute that he earned on a breakaway. The ball went high and wide, but the shot breathed some life into the Trailblazer attack. That was Rogers last official shot of the night, but he was key in the Trailblazer offense for the full 90 minutes.

A few minutes after Rogers' goal, Idris Alabi found himself back to goal with the ball in the air in the box and attempted the side volley. It was misconstrued and resulted in a foul on the Vaqueros, but the attempt kept the fire lit for the Trailblazer attack.

Although the Trailblazers were never able to find the back of the net, John Joseph and Matt Lockwood each got looks that were dangerous and tested the Vaquero backline.

UTRGV did tack on their third goal towards the end of the match. With about 10 minutes remaining Javier Chavez tacked on the Vaqueros third and final goal of the night.

STAT BREAKDOWN:
Goalkeeper Jakob Moore started in net for the Trailblazers and played the full 90 minutes. He made three second half saves and allowed three goals.

The Trailblazers registered six shots in this one. Two from Larsen Rogers and Matt Lockwood and the other two from Dominique Kossehasse and John Joseph.

Rogers was also the only Trailblazer shown a caution in this match, which happened in the 63 minute.

NOTES TO KNOW:
Dixie State is now 2-13-1 on the season and on a two-game losing streak. The Trailblazers have just two more matches remaining, one at home and one on the road.

Dixie State has the second most saves of any team this season with 70, trailing only Chicago State who has 73. Goalkeeper Levi Lord also leads the conference in saves per game averaging 5.4.

UP NEXT: The Trailblazers will celebrate their Senior Night on Sunday Oct. 31 in a Halloween day matchup versus the University of Incarnate Word. The Trailblazers will then head out on the road for their final match of the season, a Nov. 6 matchup with the UNLV Rebels.
