Trailblazers stopped by Air Force

Box Score Dixie State men's soccer lost 2-0 to the second place team in the WAC, Air Force Academy.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dixie State started this game on a strong foot. Air Force is known for their attack this season with one of the WAC's leading scorers, Tristan Trager, in their starting 11. Dixie State was able to deal with the pressure from the attack and kept the games scoreless heading into the half time break.

Dixie State registered six shots in the first half, matching the six that Air Force had. Goalkeeper Jacob Zimmerman got two saves in the opening 20 minutes and stood on his head to keep Air Force from getting an early goal.

Headed into halftime DSU had played a clean first half of soccer and kept the Air Force attack at bay.

Coming out of the halftime break, DSU still looked strong. They had a clear form and game plan they were trying to play against Air Force to keep them from being exposed in the back and giving up goals.

Air Force finally broke through the defense in the 53rd minute when Thaddeus Dewing beat Zimmerman for the goal.

In the 55th minute Zimmerman was subbed off for Jakob Moore.

Through the middle of the second half neither team was able to get much work done in the attack. These two schools' defenses were locked down and determined not to let the other score. After Air Force's first goal it took 10 minutes for Matt Lockwood to find a shot and get a proper attack going.

Air Force answered Lockwood's attempt at goal with a goal of their own. Air Force's second goal of the night would come in the 69th minute after Lathan Spadafora slalomed his way through the Dixie State's back line and beat Moore at the near post.

DSU tried to comeback after going down the second goal but the were unable to find the back of the net in this one. The Trailblazers would ultimately fall 2-0 to the Air Force Academy.

STAT BREAKDOWN:
Goalkeeper Jacob Zimmerman started in goal and registered two saves for the Trailblazers. He allowed one of the two goals. Jakob Moore finished the night in net for the Trailblazers and played the final 35 minutes of the match and conceded the second goal.

Dixie State had 10 shots in this match. They forced Kainoa Likewise into making five saves on the night. AJ Ciampini, Matt Lockwood and Larsen Rogers each had two shots apiece. Trevor Dillon, Adrian Galindo, Tony Foulger and Daniel Brubaker each registered a shot as well.

Dom Kossehasse was the only Trailblazer shown a card in this match. He received his yellow in the 84th minute.

NOTES TO KNOW:
Dixie State is now 2-11-1 on the season and on a two-game losing streak. The Trailblazers have four more games remaining this season including two road matches and two home matches.

UP NEXT: The Trailblazers will head to Phoenix for a Sunday night matchup with the Grand Canyon Lopes at 7 PM. The Lopes are the current WAC leaders and are undefeated at home this season.
