Trailblazers Stopped by Late Goal at California Baptist

Box Score Trailblazer men's soccer had it's second multi-goal game of the season in 3-2 loss to California Baptist.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Dixie State started this game as the better team. In the first half they out shot the Lancers 5-3 in the first half and had three of those shots in the opening 10 minutes of the game.

The Trailblazers would be the first to find the back of the net in this one. Idris Alabi would score his first goal of the season to open the scoring in the 29' minute of play. Alabi would slide his right footed shot into the lower corner of the net past Lancer goalkeeper Gage Rogers for the Trailblazer advantage.

Unfortunately, the Trailblazers lead was short lived. California Baptist would best Jacob Zimmerman just 10 minutes later to find their goal and send the game to halftime tied 1-1.

Out of the halftime break, the Trailblazers weren't quite as on fire offensively, but they held their own against a talented Lancer side. Just nine minutes into the half, DSU drew a penalty kick and Alabi slotted it home for the team's second goal.

It took just four minutes for the Lancers to get their chance to equalize, though. After Daniel Brubaker fouled the Lancers in the box they were awarded a penalty kick that Zimmerman was unable to stop. The game was once again level 2-2 and the Trailblazers looked to fight for a winning goal.

DSU kept creating chances and had three more shots but ultimately, California Baptist was the team who was able to find the back of the net. In the 83' minute DSU gave up another goal and found themselves down 3-2.

In the 85' minute, Guglielmo Bianchi was shown yellow for unsporting conduct.

DSU was unable to find another equalizer in this match and the Lancers would earn the 3-2 win at the end of 90 minutes.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Goalkeeper Jacob Zimmerman started in goal for the Trailblazers and played the full 90 minutes. He faced 17 shots and had six saves. The penalty kick faced was his first of his college career.

Idris Alabi scored both goals for the Trailblazers. He led the team in shots as well with six, all six being on target. Tony Foulger and Matt Lockwood each had a shot as well as Guglielmo Bianchi and Larsen Rogers had two to make up the remainder of the Trailblazers 12 shots.

Guglielmo Bianchi was also shown yellow in this match for unsporting behavior. This is his first caution of the season.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State men's soccer is now 2-10-1 in the 2021 season.

Idris Alabi and Daniel Brubaker lead the Trailblazers in goals scored this season with two apiece. Alabi's two goals against California Baptist were his 11th and 12th in his career as a Trailblazer; he sits in third place on DSU's all-time scorers list.

UP NEXT: Dixie State's next match will be Oct. 22 at Air Force. The team will then close out the three-game road stand on Oct. 24 at the current conference leaders, Grand Canyon.

Dixie State will have two more home matches this season, with senior night on Oct. 31 against Incarnate Word.
