Kalea Woodyatt scored her first collegiate goal and first Trailblazer goal of the season just eight minutes into the first game of the season.
• LEADER:
Whitley Griffiths leads Dixie State with four goals on the season.
• MOST RECENT: Griffths sunk her fourth goal of the season and her 39th career goal in the 47th minute against Utah Valley.
• Dixie State has now scored five goals this season in the first 10 minutes of the game and seven goals in the first 10 minutes of any half.
• DSU has scored three game winning goals in the final 10 minutes of the game.
GONZALES LEADS THE WAC IN SAVES
Junior transfer,
Kayla Gonzales has broke into the top of the leader boards in the Western Athletic Conference with her 101 saves on the season. She's recorded a .771 save percentage on the season, sits at a 2.1 GAA and has racked up 1290 minutes in the net. She set a career high with 13 saves against Weber State.
GRIFFITHS EARNED PRE-SEASON ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Whitley Griffiths was named to the WAC Pre-Season All-Conference team after leading Dixie State with 10 goals last season.
FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
Dixie State picked up a 2-1 win over UNLV in the season opener. DSU put a notch on the scoreboard in the first eight minutes from a corner kick. UNLV answered before the first half closed for a 1-1 score. It wasn't until the 88th minute that the Blazers were able to tuck in another goal for the game winner.
COACHING STAFF: Molly Rouse (Minnesota, 2012) is in her second season as Dixie State head coach. Rouse now has a 7-20-3 record as a head coach. Rouse brought back with her assistant coaches
Lindsey Dare and
Jennie Clark.
SEASON KICKOFFS: Dixie State has a 9-4-3 record in season openers in the NCAA era. They are also 4-2-3 in home openers.
BENNETT TAKES OVER MOST MATCHES PLAYED: Senior
Jill Bennett has now competed in 87 matches in her time at Dixie State which is the most matches above any other athlete in school history.
ALL-TIME VS. UTAH VALLEY:
Dixie State has a 1-3-1 overall record in the all-time opponent series with Utah Valley. Dixie is on a three game losing streak with the Wolverines in the series. DSU is 0-3 when playing UVU under head coach
Molly Rouse. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 2, DSU fell 3-2 to UVU in Orem.
KNOW YOUR FOE UTAH VALLEY: The Wolverines are 7-5-2 so far on the season and are 2-1-2 in WAC play. Utah Valley is coming off a 1-1 draw to Seattle U. Utah Valley is led by Sadie Brockbank and Heather Stainbrook who each have six goals on the season. UVU has fired off 197 shots on the season with 86 on frame and 23 scored goals. Keeper, Brooklyn has 33 saves on the season in 1305 minutes.
2021 ROSTER BREAKDOWN: Dixie State returned nearly eight starters and lost two from last years squad.
The Trailblazers return their leading scorer from last spring in
Whitley Griffiths who had 10 goals and one assist. Also returning are seniors,
Jill Bennett,
Kelsey Cook,
Tess Donaldson, junior Shaylyn Uyeshiro and sophomore
McKinley Barney who all clocked over 1,000 minutes played last season.
The Trailblazers had six players earn All-Conference in the spring of 2021 with five of them returning in Griffiths (First Team), Donaldson (Second team) and Bennet, Cook and Barney (Honorable Mentions). Dixie State ended the 2021 spring season with 19 total goals.
