Trailblazer Men's Soccer Travels to California Baptist for Saturday Showdown

OPENING TOUCH: Dixie State men's soccer heads back out on the road for its second matchup against California Baptist this season.

Live stats and video information for all matches can be found at www.dixiestateathletics.com.

TRANSITIONING INTO THE WAC: Dixie State enters its second season of Division I play as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Dixie State is scheduled to play an 18-game schedule including eight non-conference games and 10 conference games.

DIXIE STATE VS. CALIFORNIA BAPTIST: Dixie State has faced California Baptist ten times in its history. The overall record between these two teams is 2-7-1 for the Trailblazers with their longest win streak being one game which happened on Nov. 5, 2016 by a 2-1 scoreline. The Trailblazers have not beaten California Baptist since this game.

Since joining the WAC, these teams have played each other twice. Once on March 10, 2021 where the Trailblazers suffered a 5-0 loss and once on Aug. 29 where the Trailblazers suffered a 2-0 loss.

This is the second time these two teams will be meeting this season, but this is the only matchup that counts towards the team's conference standings. Although in the same conference, the team's Aug. 29 matchup did not count toward WAC standings.

KNOW YOUR FOE: California Baptist is, like Dixie State, a transitioning team into the Western Athletic Conference. California Baptist is in its third of four transitioning years and will be fully transitioned in the 2022-23 seasons.

California Baptist men's soccer currently sits in fifth place in the WAC with a 7-2-3 overall schedule, having gone 2-1-2 so far in conference matchups. They have scored 22 goals and allowed just 13 for a +9 goal differential this season.

California Baptist currently has the conference leading scorer, Bryan Iliohan on their team. He has scored nine goals and has one assist this season for the Lancers. Iliohan is also fourth in the conference on shots created with 36.

Lancer goakeeper Evan Ince also has allowed just six goals in 655 minutes played. He has a .846 save percentage.

The Lancers are undefeated at home this season.

COACHING STAFF: Jonny Broadhead (Colorado State-Pueblo, 2004) is in his fourth season as Dixie State head coach. Broadhead has a 35-37-4 overall record at Dixie State. He has led the program to 10 or more wins in two of his three seasons at the helm.

Broadhead has brought with him assistant coaches Kyle Coffee and Nick Vorberg who are both in their first seasons with DSU.

TRAILBLAZERS PICKED TENTH IN THE WAC: Dixie State was voted to finish 10th in the WAC men's soccer preseason coaches' poll released on August 17th. Grand Canyon was picked first with six first place votes. Seattle U was picked second with four first place votes. The Trailblazers did not have any members selected to the 2021 Preseason All-WAC team.

LAST SEASON IN THE WAC: The 2020-21 season was the first season the Trailblazers competed in the WAC. The 2020-21 season faced many cancellations and games rescheduled due to COVID-19. The Trailblazers closed the 2020-21 regular season with a 3-6-0 record. DSU's three wins in the 2020-21 season came against Incarnate Word, Houston Baptist and UTRGV, all except the win over Houston Baptist were on the road.

TEAM NOTES: Dixie State is coming off their second win of the 2021 season heading into this weeks matchup. The Trailblazers are 2-9-1 on the season and earned their second win by a 1-0 scoreline against Houston Baptist. The win over the Huskies snapped a 10 game winless streak where the team went 0-9-1.
