Trailblazers roll past Western New Mexico Saturday, 6-1

The Dixie State women's tennis improved to 2-0 at the Trailblazer Invitational on Saturday with a convincing 6-1 win over Western New Mexico at the Dixie State Tennis Courts.
 
The Trailblazers (5-3) and Mustangs (3-1) started the match 30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled to beat the impending rain in the St. George area, while making another in-match adjustment to ensure the match would be completed in time.
 
Dixie State claimed the doubles point when Emma Templeman and Anna Peterson earned a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, and Sabrina Longson and Katelyn Longson played to a 6-2 victory at No. 2. Juliana Honczaruk and Alexandra Hildreth were locked at a 5-5 tie at the No. 1 position when the decision was made to move to singles play to stay ahead of the looming inclement weather.
 
The Trailblazers continued to roll during singles play as Hildreth (6-4, 6-1) and Honcazruk (6-1, 6-2) cruised to wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Peterson (6-2, 7-5) and Sabrina Longson (4-6, 6-3, 10-3) earned the next two DSU points at the No. 6 and No. 5 positions, while Templeman battled to a 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 victory to claim the final point of the match.
 
Dixie State will close the Trailblazer Invitational on Sunday with a 9 a.m. match against former Pacific West Conference foe Holy Names.
