Trailblazers earn Senior Night win over Fort Lewis, 66-59

Dixie State women's basketball celebrated Senior Night in winning fashion on Saturday, earning a 66-59 victory over Fort Lewis inside the Burns Arena.

The victory marked the Trailblazers' first win over Fort Lewis since the 2006-07 season when the teams met during DSU's first season as an NCAA Division II member. Dixie State also clinched its 16th victory of the year, marking the most wins in a season since the 2011-12 season.

Dixie State (16-9, 11-8 RMAC) used a 26-8 run that stretched over 13 minutes of game time to turn a 12-5 deficit midway through the first quarter into a 31-20 lead at the 1:27 mark of the second quarter. The teams traded baskets over the final minute, and DSU took a 33-23 lead into halftime.

London Pavlica led the charge with seven points during the first quarter, while Keslee Stevenson added seven points and Ali Franks scored six points during the second quarter.

Fort Lewis cut the lead to four points at 47-43 late in the third quarter and again at 49-45 early in the fourth quarter, but Dixie State responded with a 9-2 run to push the lead back to 58-47. Franks, Stevenson, and Madi Loftus each buried a triple during the run. From there, the Trailblazers thwarted each FLC comeback attempt and held on for the 66-59 triumph.

Dixie State shot 46 percent (24-of-52) from the field, 32 percent (8-of-25) from 3-point range, and 76 percent (10-of-13) from the free throw line. Stevenson posted a team-high 19 points, while Pavlica added 13 points and six rebounds. Franks finished with 11 points, while Breaunna Gillen added a career-high 10 points and three rebounds.

The Trailblazers will travel to the Denver area next week to take on Regis on Friday and Colorado Christian on Saturday.
