Trailblazers cruise past Adams State Saturday, 65-39

Dixie State women's basketball closed the weekend with a decisive 65-39 win over Adams State on Saturday inside Plachy Hall in Alamosa, Colorado.

The Trailblazers (14-7, 9-6 RMAC) used a dominant first quarter to set the tone for the victory, outscoring the Grizzlies 27-6 over the first 10 minutes of the contest. DSU shared the wealth in the first period, as six different players scored and the Trailblazers shot a blistering 78 percent (11-of-14) during the frame. Keslee Stevenson led the charge with eight points and two triples.

The second quarter was more of the same for Dixie State, as the visitors pushed the lead to as many as 33 points. Like the first quarter, six different players scored for DSU during the second, with no player scoring more than four points. The Grizzlies countered with a 6-2 run before halftime, but DSU took a 45-16 lead to the break.

Dixie State pushed the lead to a game-high lead of 34 points at 55-21 midway through the third quarter after 3-pointers by Madi Loftus and Chesney Stevens, as well as four points from London Pavlica. ASU responded with a 9-2 run to trim the lead back to 57-30 heading to the fourth quarter.

The teams traded baskets throughout a low-scoring fourth quarter, as both sides combined for just 17 points in the final frame, and DSU clinched the 65-39 win to mark the second time this season it has held a team under 40 points.

Dixie State shot 45 percent (24-of-53) from the field, 32 percent (8-of-25) from 3-point range, and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line. Pavlica and Stevenson led three DSU players in double figures with 15 points each, while Pavlica added six rebounds and four assists. Stevens finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Trailblazers will wrap up their four-game road swing next week with games at Western Colorado on Friday and Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
