Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Corie Sue Holmes

Blazers start season with 81-52 win over Park

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Dixie State women's basketball started the 2020-21 season with an 81-52 victory over Park University (Gilbert).

What head coach JD Gustin said: "It is good to be back out there and seeing the kids doing what they love. They've been working really hard on the court but the things they've dealt with off the court has been extraordinary in my opinion. I don't think the average fan understands exactly what they're going through and it's impressive on how they handle it."

How it happened: Park started the game by jumping out to an 13-7 lead over the Trailblazers early in the first quarter. DSU kept chipping away to trail 20-17 at the end of the first quarter.

The first game jitters finally fell away for Dixie State in the second quarter. The Trailblazers powered up with a 17-4 run taking a 34-24 lead with four minutes left in the first half. DSU held Park to just nine points in the second quarter to end up taking a 39-29 lead at half time.

Dixie State took control coming into the second half with an 11-2 lead.
