Trailblazers stopped by UCCS Friday, 67-40

Dixie State women's basketball tipped off the new year on a sour note on Friday, suffering a 67-40 defeat at the hands of UC-Colorado Springs inside the Burns Arena.
 
The Trailblazers (8-4, 3-3 RMAC) converted on just 4-of-23 (17 percent) field goal attempts in the first half and scored just 14 points through the first two quarters of the game. Meanwhile, UCCS shot a blistering 63 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc en route to a 41-14 halftime lead.
 
Dixie State played to a 19-13 advantage in the third quarter, including an 11-1 run to pull within 52-33, but the home squad would get no closer. UCCS put the finishing touches on the win with a 13-7 tally in the final quarter to wrap up the 67-40 victory.
 
Overall, the Trailblazers shot 24 percent (14-of-57) from the field, 25 percent (6-of-24) from 3-point range, and 6-of-9 (66 percent) from the free throw line. Chesney Stevens led the way with 11 points and four rebounds, while Deshka Olson added six points.
 
Dixie State will close the weekend with a Saturday evening matchup against Colorado School of Mines. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
