Second-Half Surge Propels Trailblazers Past Colorado Christian Friday, 61-54

Dixie State women's basketball used a second-half surge to rally past Colorado Christian for a 61-54 comeback victory on Friday inside the Burns Arena.

The Trailblazers (12-4, 7-3 RMAC) scored on their first possession of the game when Chesney Stevens converted a layup for a 2-0 lead. But DSU wouldn't lead again until midway through the fourth quarter, as the Cougars shot 51 percent (15-of-29) from the field in the first half en route to a 38-28 halftime advantage.

Dixje State set the tone for the comeback early in the third quarter, using a 10-3 run to pull within 41-38. Stevens sparked the run with a traditional 3-point play, then London Pavlica scored the next seven DSU points, including a triple. The Trailblazers later cut the lead to 51-49 later in the frame, but from there, the lead seesawed between two and seven points until early in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 45-40 to begin the final frame, Dixie State used an 11-2 run over the first four minutes of the fourth period to build a 51-47 lead. Keslee Stevenson started the run with a jumper and a free throw, while four other Trailblazers scored during the run.

The Cougars answered with a layup on their next possession to trim the lead to 51-49, but the visitors would get no closer. Dixie State would not relinquish the lead, closing the game on a 10-5 run to seal the 61-54 victory. Overall, DSU outscored CCU 33-16 in the second half.

London Pavlica led the way with 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Makayla Johnson posted a career-high 10 points and eight rebounds.
