Trailblazers Rally Past Seattle Pacific in OT Thriller Saturday, 2-1

Dixie State netted two goals over the final nine minutes of play in regulation and overtime to rally past Seattle Pacific, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium.

SPU (0-2-0) struck the game's first goal early in the ninth minute when Claire Neder took advantage of a defensive miscue and beat Blazer Chandler Greenwood on a one-and-one chance to give her side a quick 1-0 lead.

The Falcons managed to maintain their advantage until the 84th-minute when sophomore Whitley Johns rocketed home a shot from the left wing to knot the score at 1-1. Then with two minutes into in the first overtime period, Johns chipped a ball to Sophie Stewart, who threaded a blast through a scrum in front of the net and past SPU keeper Riley Travis for the golden goal.

Dixie State outshot SPU 16-5 in the match, including a 5-2 edge on goal.

The Trailblazers open the road portion of its 2019 season next weekend as the Trailblazers head to SoCal to renew a pair of old Pacific West Conference rivalries. DSU will travel to San Diego to face Point Loma on Thursday, Sept. 12, before heading north to Irvine to square off against Concordia-Irvine on Saturday, Sept. 14.
