Dixie State volleyball dropped its final match of the DSU-hosted Desert Garden Inn by Wyndham Classic by a 3-0 count to Northwest Nazarene Saturday afternoon in the Burns Arena.
The Trailblazer (1-3) took early control in the first set, scoring 10 of the first 15 points to open the match en route to a quick 10-5 advantage. NNU would storm back thanks to an 11-3 spurt, which erased the deficit and propelled the Nighthawks to a 16-13 lead on their way to a 25-19 set win.
Dixie State looked as if it would pull even in the match in the second frame as the Blazers owned a commanding 22-17 lead after a
Sydney Johnson kill. However the Nighthawks (1-2) mounted another charge, outscoring DSU 9-2 to snatch the set away, 26-24, to extend to a 2-0 lead in the match. NNU then closed out the match with a decisive 25-16 win in set three.
Dixie State was limited to a season-low .117 attack percentage and managed just 33 kills in the three sets, while NNU hit .224 with 41 kills. Johnson,
Chayse Daugherty and
Megan Treanor each finished with eight kills to lead DSU.
Dixie State will open the road portion of its 2019 schedule next weekend as the Trailblazers head to the "Lone Star State" to play in the Lubbock Christian-hosted Chaps Invitational.
