Dixie State came away with a split of two matches played on day two of the DSU-hosted Desert Garden Inn by Wyndham Classic Friday inside the Burns Arena. The Trailblazers suffered their second-straight three set loss of the tourney as Simon Fraser (25-19, 25-15, 25-23) swept them away in game two of the day before breaking through with a 3-1 win over Stanislaus State (25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21) in the final match of the six-match marathon session.
Junior
Megan Treanor posted her first double-double of the season with team-highs of 10 kills and 15 assists vs. SFU (1-1), while freshman
Chayse Daugherty collected seven kills and two digs. DSU hit .240 with 34 kills against the Clan, who were led by Tamara Clarke with 15 kills and 14 digs.
Treanor and Daugherty continued their hot play in the nightcap vs. Stanislaus as the duo accounted for 26 of DSU's 54 kills in the four-set win. Treanor just missed notching a triple-double as she went for 15 kills, 16 assists and eight digs. The junior also tallied four block assists and a service ace. Meanwhile, Daugherty recorded her first collegiate double-double with career-highs of 11 kills and 10 digs.
Dixie State's defense also stepped up big against Stanislaus as DSU held the visiting Warriors (1-1) to a .176 hitting percentage, thanks in part to 61 digs (22 for freshman
Mykenna Nelson) and 12 total team blocks, including six block assists apiece for senior
Lauren Gammell and junior
Lizzy Clark.
The Trailblazers (1-2) will wrap of the Classic Saturday afternoon against Northwest Nazarene Saturday at 1 p.m.
