Dixie State picked up its second-straight RMAC shutout victory Sunday afternoon with a dominant 4-0 result over Black Hills State at Trailblazer Stadium. With the win, DSU remained unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-1 and moved to 4-1-2 overall.
The Trailblazers played in the Yellow Jackets' (1-6-1/1-2-1 RMAC) defensive third for virtually the entire first half of action, which led to three goals on 21 shots and seven corner kicks. Dixie State got on the board thanks to one of those corner kicks in early in the 15
th-minute as
Kilee Allsop played a ball into
Tess Donaldson (1), who tucked in the chance from point blank range for the game's first goal.
Dixie State struck again in the 38
th-minute when
Zoe Clark (2) cleaned up a BHSU defensive miscue for her second goal of the season.
Sydney Roberts sent a free kick into the Black Hills penalty area that originally looked to have been caught by a leaping Dz-Rae Jara, but the Yellow Jacket netminder lost control of the ball on the way to the ground and Clark took advantage collected her second goal of the year.
Then right before the halftime horn,
Jaci Cook-Dandos (2) blasted a 45-yard shot that bounded past Jara and into the BHSU net with one second on the clock, and the Blazers went into the locker room with a three-goal advantage. Dixie State would put the game on ice just 35 seconds into the second stanza when
Alexa Ashton (2) headed home a
Kelsey Cook corner kick to provide the final margin of victory.
Dixie State stifled Black Hills all afternoon as the Yellow Jackets were held without a single shot attempt for the first 75 minutes of play and finished with only two shots in the match. DSU's defense collected its second-consecutive clean sheet and surrendered only one goal during the Blazers' three-match homestand overall (2-0-1).
Dixie State will head to Colorado to begin the road portion of its final RMAC season with matches at MSU Denver on Friday, Oct. 4, and at No. 2 UCCS on Sunday, Oct. 6.
