Dixie State recorded its third-straight RMAC shutout result Friday afternoon as the Trailblazers battled MSU Denver to a scoreless draw at the MSUD Regency Athletic Complex.
DSU (4-1-3/2-0-2 RMAC) was limited to just two total shots on goal in the match (12 total shots), both of were attempted in the second half. The first came off the boot of
Jill Bennett in the 49
th-minute, while
Lauren Buxton got free for a shot on target with under eight minutes to play in regulation time, but Roadrunner goalkeeper Erica Torres stopped both chances to deny the Blazers their first goal.
Meanwhile, the Dixie State defense was just as stout in holding MSUD (3-5-2/2-1-2 RMAC) to only six total shots (2 SOG) over the first 90 minutes of action. However the Roadrunners had a good look to end the match three minutes into the first OT when Elli Zimmer had a breakaway chance inside the DSU 18, but DSU netminder
Adelle Brown made a slide tackle to knock the ball away from MSUD attacker to keep the match scoreless.
Then with 1:06 left in the first overtime, Bennett looked to end the match with 15-yard blast that sailed over cross bar. Both teams would play to a stalemate the rest of the way to each come out with a point on the RMAC table.
The Trailblazers' draw on Friday, their third of the season, tied the program's NCAA-era record of three set during the 2011 season (7-8-3).
Dixie State will head to Colorado Springs to face No. 1-ranked UCCS Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
