Dixie State remained unbeaten in RMAC play on the strength of a 2-0 result over Regis Friday night at Trailblazer Stadium.
The Trailblazers (3-1-2/1-0-1 RMAC) broke through with the game's first goal in the 32
nd-minute when
Kelsey Cook played a ball to
Whitley Johns on the left wing, who took one dribble and rocketed a top-shelf blast from 30-yards out. It was Johns' second goal in as many matches and her team-leading third tally of the season.
DSU's defense was stout the entire night, limiting the Rangers (4-2-1/2-1-0 RMAC) to seven total shots, including just two in the second half. However one of those two Regis attempts nearly found the net late in the 68
th-minute as Emily Goodson fired a shot from the right wing, but DSU reserve keeper
Adelle Brown made a diving stop to preserve DSU's one-goal advantage.
Dixie State would put the match away with just over six minutes to go when Cook stole the ball from a Ranger defender and tucked home her second goal of the year to provide the winning margin.
The Blazers finished with 14 shots, seven on frame, while starting keeper
Chandler Greenwood (W, 3-1-2) and Brown combined to post DSU's first clean sheet of the year.
Dixie State wraps up its homestand on Sunday with an RMAC battle against Black Hills State beginning at 12 noon.
