Trailblazers Post Road Draw at Concordia-Irvine Saturday, 2-2

Dixie State wrapped up the non-conference portion of its 2019 schedule with a 2-2 draw at Concordia-Irvine Saturday afternoon at the CUI Soccer Field.

Trailing 1-0 after the halftime break, the Trailblazers (2-1-1) struck for a pair of second half goals to vault to a 2-1 lead. Jill Bennett got Dixie State on the board late in the 54th-minute to knot the match at 1-1, then Kelsey Cook gave the Blazers a one-goal advantage 21-plus minutes later thanks to a Whitley Johns feed inside the Eagle 18-yard box.

CUI (1-2-1) answered with the equalizer in the 84th-minute with a Jadenn Carillo goal that drew her side even at 2-2. DSU pressed the issue from that moment on as the Trailblazers outshot the Eagles 8-3 over the final six-plus minutes of regulation an both overtime periods, but they could not come up with the game-clinching score as DSU came away with its first tie in 92 matches over a span of five-plus seasons.

The last instance that Dixie State posted a draw came in the season opener of the 2014 season at home vs. Chico State (1-1; 9/4/14).

Dixie State will begin its final season of RMAC play with a three-match homestand, beginning with a date vs. in-state rival Westminster College at Trailblazer Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 22. Kick-off is slated for 1:30 p.m.
