Women’s Tennis splits on Day One in Colorado

The Dixie State women's tennis team played to a split on Friday on the first day of its trip to Pueblo, Colorado.
 
The Trailblazers (1-1) opened the day with a close 4-3 loss to Nebraska-Kearney, before bouncing back with a convincing 6-1 triumph over CSU-Pueblo in the nightcap.
 
MATCH ONE – Nebraska-Kearney 4, Dixie State 3
 
The Lopers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning two out of the three doubles matches. Megan Lynch and Emma Templeman claimed the lone DSU doubles win with a 6-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles.
 
The singles portion of the match featured six highly competitive singles matches as the teams played to a 3-3 split of the six available points, allowing UNK to clinch the 4-3 win. Templeman cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles in her first collegiate match, while Juliana Honczaruk earned a 6-0, 6-4 result at the No. 5 position. Katelyn Longson claimed the final DSU point with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 6.

MATCH TWO – Dixie State 6, CSU-Pueblo 1
 
Dixie State quickly put the loss to UNK in the rearview mirror, sweeping the doubles matchs against CSU-Pueblo to claim the doubles point. Isabel Heras and Alexandra Hildreth rolled to 6-0 sweep at No. 1, while Lynch and Templeman earned their second doubles win of the day with a 6-3 win at No. 2. Honczaruk and Briee Jolliff completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
 
Honczaruk and Longson picked up where they left off in the first match during singles play, rolling to 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Hildreth fought for a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2, while Lynch battled to a 7-6 (10-6), 6-0 result at No. 3. Templeman earned the final DSU singles point after her opponent left the match during the second set.

The Trailblazers will close their trip with two more matches on Saturday, taking on Texas Permian Basin at 8 a.m. and Dallas Baptist at Noon.
