Trailblazers Blank MSUD in RMAC Tourney Second Round Thursday, 10-0

Jayden Murray tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts and picked up his DSU single-season record tying 10th win of the season, while the Trailblazer offense struck early and often, as Dixie State blanked MSU Denver by a 10-0 count in a second round winner's bracket match up at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Thursday night at Suplizio Field.

The No. 3-seeded Trailblazers (35-17) will now move on to face top-seed No. 1/No. 4 Colorado Mesa for the right to advance to the tourney's championship game out of the winner's bracket on Friday at 11 a.m.

Dixie State gave Murray all the runs he would need over the first three innings of play as the Trailblazers bolted out to a quick 9-0 lead. Jake Engel got the Blazers on the board with an RBI-single in the first before DSU erupted for five runs in the second frame. DSU pounded out five hits in the stanza, including RBI-singles from Braxton Ipson and Tyler Hollow, while Cade Spurlin doubled home two more runs later in the frame and would scamper home on a Tyson Fisher base hit.

The Trailblazers tacked on three more runs in the home third on another Hollow run-scoring hit, a wild pitch, and an Engel double. Then in the fifth, Braden Stutzman connected on his first home run of the season, a solo blast to the gap in left center, which gave Dixie State its double-digit cushion.

Murray (W, 10-3) would make that lead stand as he fired 7.1 innings of five-hit shutout baseball and allowed just seven total MSUD (28-23) baserunners. The senior righthander struck out at least one batter in six of his full seven innings of work, including striking out the side in the sixth, on his way to his 10th victory of the season. Brecken Lewis then came on and pitched the final inning and two-thirds with a pair of strikeouts to close out the game.

Dixie State outhit the Roadrunners 13-6, with Hollow leading the way with four hits and three runs scored to go with his two RBI, while Engel finished 3-for-4 with two runs driven in.
