Trailblazers advance to RMAC Championship with 4-2 defeat of Colorado Mesa

The No. 2 seed Dixie State women's tennis team punched its ticket to Saturday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship on Friday with a 4-2 win over No. 3 Colorado Mesa at the Elliott Tennis Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.
 
The Trailblazers (12-4) found themselves in familiar territory early in the match, trailing 1-0 after doubles play. Just one week earlier, against the same opponent on the same courts, Dixie State dropped the doubles point, then rallied during singles play for a 4-3 victory. And on Friday, with a berth to the RMAC Championship on the line, the Trailblazers duplicated the feat to earn their fourth win over the Mavericks this season.
 
Yolena Carlon set the tone for the comeback and cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Juliana Honczaruk posted the same score at No. 6, rolling to a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Kyra Harames picked up a critical point at the No. 2 position, battling to a 6-4, 6-4 triumph. And just one day after being named RMAC Co-Freshman of the Year, Isabel Heras clinched the win with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory at No. 3.
 
The win sends Dixie State to its first conference championship match in program history, as the Trailblazers get set for a grudge match against No. 1 MSU Denver on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Roadrunners earned their spot in the championship match with a 4-0 win over No. 4 CSU-Pueblo.
