Trailblazer Women hold off Western Colorado Friday, 67-56

Dixie State women's basketball earned a 67-56 victory over Western Colorado on Saturday inside the Burns Arena, clinching the season sweep of the Mountaineers in the process.
 
The Trailblazers (12-8, 8-8 RMAC) used a big second quarter to overcome a low-scoring first quarter and take a 29-27 halftime lead. Madi Loftus led the charge in the frame, connecting on three 3-pointers for nine points, while DSU shot 66 percent (8-of-12) from the field in the quarter.
 
Dixie State picked up where it left off after halftime, outscoring the visitors 21-12 in the third quarter to build a 50-39 lead. Keslee Stevenson scored eight points in the frame, including two triples, while Cameron Mooney added four points.

The teams traded baskets over the final 10 minutes and played to a 17-17 tie in the fourth quarter. Stevenson added another eight points and two more 3-pointers in the period, while Lisa VanCampen added six points to wrap up the 67-56 victory.
 
Dixie State shot 42 percent (24-of-54) from the field, 44 percent (8-of-18) from 3-point range, and 78 percent (11-of-14) from the free throw line. Stevenson led all scorers with 21 points and seven rebounds, while VanCampen added 13 points and five rebounds.
 
The Trailblazers close out the weekend with Saturday evening battle against  No. 16 Colorado Mesa. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
