Trailblazers cruise past CSU-Pueblo Saturday, 70-46

Dixie State women's basketball completed a weekend sweep of its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road trip, and earned its third consecutive victory, on Saturday with a 70-46 triumph over CSU-Pueblo inside Massari Arena in Pueblo, Colorado.
 
The Trailblazers (8-3, 3-2 RMAC) set the tone early, outscoring the ThunderWolves, 21-8, in the first quarter. Dixie State shot a blistering 61 percent (8-of-13) through the first 10 minutes of the contest, while Ali Franks poured in nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field.
 
Dixie State pushed the lead to 33-12 early in the second quarter behind back-to-back layups from Ashley Greenwood, a 3-pointer by Keslee Stevenson, and five consecutive points from Franks. The teams traded baskets over the final five minutes of the period, and DSU took a 41-24 lead into the halftime break.
 
DSU continued its hot shooting in the third quarter, connecting on 63 percent (7-of-11) of its field goal attempts. The Trailblazers pushed the lead to 55-30 before CSU-Pueblo answered with a pair of baskets to cut the lead to 57-35 heading to the final frame.
 
The Trailblazers traded baskets with the ThunderWolves in the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to a game-high mark of 30 points at 66-36 before CSU-Pueblo countered with a 10-2 run to cut the lead back to 68-46. Greenwood put the finishing touches on the win with a layup on DSU's final possession to push the final tally to 70-46.
 
Dixie State shot 51 percent (27-of-53) from the field, marking the second time in three game the Trailblazers have eclipsed the 50-percent mark. DSU connected on 45 percent (10-of-22) of its 3-point attempts, while converting 6-of-11 (54 percent) free throw attempts. Franks led the charge with a game-high 22 points to go with four rebounds, while Stevenson added 10 points and three assists. Chesney Stevens finished with nine points and four rebounds, while London Pavlica tallied six points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
 
The Trailblazers will host Yellowstone Christian in an exhibition matchup on December 30, before returning to RMAC action on January 3-4 against UCCS and Colorado School of Mines.
