Trailblazers down Yellowstone Christian in exhibition matchup Monday, 76-32

Dixie State women's basketball closed the 2019 calendar year in style on Monday, cruising to a 76-32 exhibition victory over Yellowstone Christian College inside the Burns Arena.

After playing to a 28-18 halftime lead, the Trailblazers used a second-half surge to run away from the Centurions, outscoring the visitors 48-14 while shooting 54 percent (19-of-35) from the field over the final two quarters.

Dixie State set the tone for the second-half fireworks with a dominant third quarter, outscoring the visitors by a 28-8 count to build a 56-36 advantage. London Pavlica sparked the run, scoring eight consecutive points for the Trailblazers early in the frame, while Madi Loftus, Deshka Olson, and Breaunna Gillen added five points each.

The Trailblazers picked up where they left off in the fourth quarter, playing to a 20-6 advantage in the final frame to seal the win. Gillen added five more points in the period, while Kelsea Barker buried two triples, including a deep 3-pointer as the shot clock expired, to finish with six points.

Overall, Dixie State shot 40 percent (31-of-76) from the field, 31 percent (11-of-35) from 3-point range, and 37 percent (3-of-8) from the free throw line. Olson finished with a team-high 14 points, while Gillen added 10 points. Breana Moea'i finished with seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Dixie State will return to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this weekend, hosting UCCS on Friday and Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
