Trailblazers edged by Midwestern State Saturday, 73-63

Dixie State women's basketball dropped a 73-63 decision to Midwestern State on Saturday in Wichita Falls, Texas, in the final game of the MSU Ashbrook Classic.

The teams traded baskets through most of the first quarter, until London Pavlica nailed a pair of free throws, followed by a layup to give DSU a 13-8 lead late in the frame. The Mustangs countered with a 7-0 run to take a 15-13 lead into the second quarter.

MSU stretched the lead to 18-13 with a 3-pointer early in the second, but Ali Franks answered with a triple of her own to stop the run. Later, DSU used an 8-0 run to wrestle back the lead at 25-22 before the Mustangs closed the half with a 9-3 run to take a 31-28 lead into the break.

Neither team managed to pull away in the third quarter as both squads scored 22 points during the frame. MSU maintained a 53-50 advantage heading to the final period.

Dixie State would cut the lead to two points on multiple occasions during the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs had an answer each time. The home squad would eventually grow the lead to 68-60 before DSU scored its final points on a 3-point play by Ashley Greenwood. MSU then scored five straight points to push the score to the final tally at 73-63.

The Trailblazers shot 39 percent (21-of-53) from the field, 16 percent (3-of-18) from 3-point range, and 60 percent (18-of-30) from the free throw line. Greenwood led three DSU players in double figures with 20 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Franks added 12 points, while Madi Loftus chipped in 10 points.

Dixie State will open its home schedule next weekend with two game inside the Burns  Arena.
