Dixie State clinched a berth into the 2019 RMAC postseason tournament with a 1-0 result at Colorado Mesa Friday afternoon at Walker Field. The Trailblazers won their third-straight match overall to improve to 9-3-4 on the year, 7-2-3 (24 pts) in the RMAC table.
Dixie State forced the issue offensively all match long as the Blazers rattled off 20 shots, with six of those attempts coming goal. However it would be an "own goal" on a Maverick (8-7-1/6-6-1 RMAC) defensive miscue with 9:22 to play in regulation time that wound up giving DSU the big road victory.
Sophomore
Whitley Johns and junior
Kelsey Cook led DSU with four shot attempts apiece. Meanwhile, the DSU defense held the Mavericks to just five total shot attempts – one on goal, which was stopped by junior netminder
Adelle Brown, who improved to 6-2-2 in goal and posted her third clean sheet of the season overall.
Dixie State will close the 2019 regular season with a neutral-site match against Western Colorado, which will be played in Grand Junction this Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Â
