Whitley Johns scored twice as part of a five-goal barrage as Dixie State blitzed Adams State, 5-0, Friday afternoon at the ASU Soccer Field.
Johns scored both of her goals in the opening 26 minutes of play, the first coming just 5:16 into the match when she finished a
Kelsey Cook feed to put the Trailblazers (6-3-3/4-2-2 RMAC) on the board. Then after
Sophie Stewart set up
Jill Bennett for her second goal of the season at the 12:03 mark, Johns tucked in her team-leading sixth goal of the year late in the 26
th-minute to give her side a 3-0 lead.
Dixie State tacked on two more second half goals, including a Stewart (2) score off a
Kilee Allsop corner kick in the 54
th-minute, and
Ambree Bennett booted home her first goal of the season at the 66:25 mark.
DSU finished with 13 total shots and scored on five of its seven shots on frame overall, while the Blazers limited the Grizzlies (3-8-0/1-7-0 RMAC) to just four total attempts. Three DSU goalkeepers combined to make three saves on the afternoon as the Trailblazers posted their fourth clean sheet of the season.
Dixie State will now travel to Durango to face Fort Lewis this Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
