Kelsey Cook scored twice and assisted on another goal to help lead Dixie State to a decisive 5-1 result over Colorado Christian Friday night at Trailblazer Stadium.
The Trailblazers (5-2-3/3-1-2 RMAC) struck for three goals in the first 22 minutes of play, the first came off the boot of
Whitley Johns (4), who fired home a 25-yard shot off a
Sophie Stewart feed just 5:45 into the match. Cook would collect her first goal nearly three minutes later as she beat the Cougar goalkeeper on a breakaway 1-v-1 charge for what wound up being the eventual game-winning goal.
Lauren Buxton capped the early rally at the 21:48 mark when she found the back of the net from 15-yards out on the left wing for her first goal of the year.
Colorado Christian (4-6-1/2-4-1 RMAC) managed to get one of those goals back on a Saige Stock 20-yard free kick five-plus minutes into the second half, but Cook (4) countered with a 25-yard blast of her own just 1:11 later to reclaim DSU's three-goal advantage. Cook then helped cap DSU's night with a cross to
Jill Bennett, who finished from 8-yards out to provide the final margin of victory.
Dixie State outshot CCU 15-4, including a 13-2 edge in shots on goal.
Adelle Brown collected DSU's lone save on the night in the first half to earn the win in goal.
DSU returns to action this Sunday afternoon with a showdown vs. No. 16 Colorado School of Mines at Trailblazer Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
