Trailblazers roll past Chadron State, 87-52

The Dixie State women's basketball team rolled to a convincing 87-52 win over Chadron State on Saturday inside the Burns Arena.
 
The Trailblazers (8-5, 4-5 RMAC) led from wire to wire to earn their second consecutive victory and improve to 7-1 at home. Dixie State shot 46 percent (32-of-69) from the field, 40 percent (12-of-30) from 3-point range, and 68 percent (11-of-16) from the free throw line.
 
London Pavlica led four DSU players in double figures with a career-high 20 points to go with six rebounds and a career-high five assists. Madi Loftus added 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from outside, while Ali Franks posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Lisa VanCampen chipped in 12 points for her seventh double-figure scoring performance of the year.
 
Dixie State opened the game on an 11-4 run as Keslee Stevenson scored five points and VanCampen added four points during the stretch. DSU took its first double-digit lead of the contest a few minutes later when Pavlica made a layup to push the lead to 19-8. The Eagles answered with a 6-0 run, but Loftus drained a triple to give the home squad a 22-14 lead after the first quarter.
 
The Trailblazers picked up where they left off in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 18-6 over the first half of the frame to push the lead to 40-20. The teams traded baskets through the second half of the stanza, and DSU took a 51-30 lead to the halftime break.
 
Chadron State fought back to within 16 points at 59-43 with a layup at the 3:10 mark of the third quarter, but the visitors wouldn't get any closer. Dixie State closed the period on a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 68-43 heading to the final period. Pavlica and Loftus hit a 3-pointer on each end of the run, while Morgan Myers converted a traditional 3-point play between the two triples.
 
The Trailblazers sealed the game in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles 19-9 in the final frame to clinch the 87-52 triumph. Pavlica led the charge with seven points during the frame, while Cameron Mooney added six points.
 
Dixie State opens a four-game road swing in Colorado next weekend with a Friday matchup at Colorado Christian and a Saturday battle at Regis.
