No. 5 2017-18 Top Moment – Trailblazer Stadium East Grandstand

New Grandstand Pushes Stadium Capacity to 10,000

NOTE: This story is the sixth of a 10-story series featuring the Top-10 Moments of the Dixie State Athletics 2017-18 season. A new top moment will be unveiled each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until the final moment is announced on June 29.

18 months ago the east side of Trailblazer Stadium stood empty, a stretch of dirt containing two sets of portable bleachers. The only people who ventured to that side of the stadium were the occasional visiting football fans. Fast forward to the present day, and the view couldn't be more different.

Phase Two of the Trailblazer Stadium renovations, a majestic new grandstand on the east side, was completed in early May, adding another 5,000 seats to push the total seating capacity of the stadium to 10,000. The new east side also boasts a new ticketing and concession building, along with a multitude of storage space to go with new locker rooms, restrooms, and athletic training rooms, providing more opportunity to host additional community events and concerts, as well as high school state tournaments.

The upgraded facility was put to the test just days after its completion, as the 2018 Dixie State University commencement ceremony was held on May 4 inside Trailblazer Stadium. The ceremony saw 1,719 Dixie State students honored for completing either an associate or bachelor's degree with a capacity crowd of 10,000 people in attendance for the first DSU commencement ceremony to be held inside the updated stadium.

Trailblazer Stadium hosted another 8,000 people less than a week later on May 12 when Nitro Circus brought its high-flying act to St. George. The stadium will again be filled to capacity on July 4, playing host to the City of St. George Independence Day celebration and fireworks show.

Men's soccer will host the first official Dixie State athletic contest at the renovated stadium, welcoming in Ottawa University on Saturday, Sept. 1. Trailblazer football will open its home slate a week later against Fort Lewis, while the women's soccer team plays its first official home contest vs. Metro State-Denver on Friday, Sept. 28.

Stay tuned to DixieStateAthletics.com, as well as all the Trailblazer Athletics social media accounts, as the No. 4 Top Moment is announced on Friday.
