Women’s Tennis falls at MSU-Denver Sunday, 6-3

Frances Hina Goldsmith wins seventh straight singles match

The Dixie State women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Metro State-Denver on Sunday in the 2017-18 regular season finale in Denver, Colorado.

The Trailblazers (9-8) found themselves in an early 3-0 deficit after dropping each of the three doubles matches. Frances Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) and Maria Kana Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) came closest to a DSU point in doubles play, dropping an 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Dixie State entered singles play needing five points to secure its fourth straight victory. However, DSU would only get three, as Hina Goldsmith earned her seventh consecutive singles victory with a 7-6 (6), 7-5 triumph at No. 4 singles. McKelle Burnett (Centerville, Utah/Viewmont) picked up her fourth straight singles win with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles. Kana Goldsmith recorded her sixth singles win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Trailblazers now await the Pacific West Conference Championships, beginning on Wednesday, April 18, in Surprise, Arizona.
