Women's Tennis drops PacWest opener to Concordia-Irvine

The Dixie State women's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to Concordia-Irvine on Wednesday in the 2018 Pacific West Conference Championships opener in Surprise, Arizona.

The Trailblazers (9-9) dropped two of the three doubles matches to open the match with a 2-1 deficit. Frances Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) and Maria Kana Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) earned the team's lone point of the match with an 8-3 triumph at No. 3 doubles. With the win, the Goldsmith sisters improve to 8-1 in doubles play this season.

Yolena Carlon (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista), Hina Goldsmith, and McKelle Burnett (Centerville, Utah/Viewmont) each won the first set of their respective singles matches, but the match was halted after Concordia-Irvine earned wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles to clinch the 5-1 victory.

Dixie State will close the 2017-18 season on Thursday with a consolation match against Cal State LA at 5:30 p.m. MST (6:30 p.m. MDT – Utah).
