Women’s Tennis falls at Concordia-Irvine Friday, 7-2

Sabrina Longson and Kyra Harames earn the lone DSU points in the loss

The Dixie State women's tennis team opened its two-match southern California trip with a 7-2 loss to Concordia-Irvine on Friday in Irvine, California.

The Trailblazers (3-4) found themselves in a 3-0 hole after doubles play, as the Eagles took all three doubles matches. Frances Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) and Hattie Erekson (St. George, Utah/Pine View) came closest to a point for DSU in doubles play, falling 8-7 after a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

Dixie State looked to bounce back during singles play as Kyra Harames (Spokane, Wash./Central Valley) remained undefeated in singles play during the 2017-18 season. Harames battled to a 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 win at No. 3 singles to improve to 7-0 in singles matches. Sabrina Longson (Salt Lake City, Utah/Olympus) earned the second DSU point of the day, playing to a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 4 singles. McKelle Burnett (Centerville, Utah/Viewmont) forced a tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, but fell 3-6, 6-1, 10-4, and the Eagles clinched the match with four singles victories.

The Trailblazers close their two-match trip at Cal State LA in Los Angeles on Monday at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (11 a.m. MT).
